: Im having a hell of a time getting half life to play in my TCP LAN. I can set up a LAN game just fine, but when the other system goes to connect, it goes out to the internet as if it were connecting to an Internet game, or,the host game just wont show up AT ALL. Or, the damn think will just lock up all together.

: Thanks,

Aah. I know that problem very well. There are several solutions for that :

1.) the computer that has to join starts with the command : hl.exe +join xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
2.) you start a host game and join the other computer then by typing connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to the console - OR you type escape and the Host should be found then also.. silly isnt it ?

But I think using 1.) is just right. HL then thinks it was a singleplayer game, so you wont be able to change stuff like dm-mdls or something like that. And you have no console. But if you want the console, start it with
hl.exe -console -toconsole +connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. But you will need the Cd then.
WELL as you dont need the Cd for dm-hosting that should be no problem :-)
Have fun
