Half-Life

DeathMatch
Do I think Half-Life will replace Quake/Quake2 as the preferred straight DM muliplayer online game when it is released? No.

Do I think Half-Life will take a huge chunk of the online multiplayer lovers, especially TeamFortress and CTF / Action Quake lovers? Absolutely.

Yahn over at Valve is spending nearly all of his time working on the multiplayer aspects of the game, There are several cool camera modes, they are using a QuakeWorld multiplayer code updating at up to 72 frames per second, etc etc.

Something I don't agree with, at least to the degree that it is used in both SIN and Half-Life, is location based impact. I feel that the average player is still going to ping at about 200ms. Quake3 seems to have the right idea in only doing either Top 1/3rd of the player, and the rest. Distinguishing between Head, arms, torso, legs, etc etc is overkill at this point in the game.

More Screenshots
I had planned on including descriptions of these screenshots, but honestly I only recall the location of 2 of these images, oh well. :)

Conclusion
Of all the 1st person shooters I have seen in the past year, Half-Life has been hyped over and over again as the possible "next big thing"

I can honestly say that I expect Half-Life to be at the top of the heap when it is released. Valve has outdone themselves with this title, and will be setting a new benchmark for all future 3D action games to be compared to.
